# 36

Today I went to one of my favorite stores Father & Sons. They have all kinds of awesome finds- furniture, clothes, mannequins, shoes, signs, and a bunch of other random stuff. I came across these vintage FOO CHU Ancient Chinese Fortune Telling Sticks and so of course I had to try it!

I really like what my fortune said. However, I can't decide if I should take the "handsomeness" as a compliment or insult? at least I've got talent. Oh and I especially like the part about how my engagement ring will be one and a half times bigger than I thought.

Brain Freeze

This morning we woke up to this beautiful sight:

So...I'm not sure if it was all the winter wonderland or just a case of my little spending habit - when I decided to get online and purchase these Hunter for Jimmy Choo boots:

Alright, call it what you want: an unnecessary expense, a gift to myself, or an eye for a good deal? How about we just stick with my good eye ;o) After all, sometimes life calls for a little splurge right?!

and to take that rowdy Jimmy Choo thought away, here's a picture of us playing outside in the snow today! Enjoy :)

Waiting for Superman

Last week at work, someone went over the intercom and announced that a documentary called "Waiting for Superman" was being offered as a special screening for free to teachers and included a discussion panel afterwards. I had never heard of this movie since I usually don't watch much T.V...next thing I know all my co-workers are saying how great they heard it is and we all planned to go watch the documentary together.

I just came back from watching the documentary and I have never been so inspired and so proud to be a teacher! The documentary exposed the issues in education today and how so many schools practically set up students to either just get by or fail. They included a few families that have "at risk" children, who really care about their child's education and are committed to ensuring they receive only the best. It made me realize how these issues are negatively affecting children and families by just shuffling them into the system and expecting them to survive somehow. The movie discusses different options other than public schools for example, charter schools (I actually work at one). As the kids waited anxiously to see if they made it into the Lottery for a charter school, you could see concern, nervousness, and eagerness in their faces. No child should have to be concerned about getting into a good school, it should just be happening! Being a teacher is so much more than a title. Your actually an educator, janitor, nurse, caregiver, listener, friend....your everything to that child when he/she is in your care. Throughout the movie, I really enjoyed learning about the statistics that were shown and how the school systems were explained so clearly. I walked away from this movie with a lot of-appreciation for my job, determination to provide the best quality of education, show more compassion & patience, and to give parents chances (believe it or not, this can be really hard!).

You should watch this documentary whether you are a parent, student, or teacher--don't forget your tissues! Check out the trailer!

Family=Friends, Friends=Family

In our family, our parents raised us to celebrate life to the fullest, never take any moments shared together for granted, make a party out of all occasions- and to always be excellent hosts! I adore my family and really love how close we are even though some of us live in different states.

On Friday night my cousin invited us over to her super cute place for a holiday get together, ornament exchange, and some other fun games. The ornament stealing got pretty intense! lol but I think everyone went home with a great ornament! Her setup was really great and the food was delish! It was such a nice gesture!

We all had lots of laughs - okay fine, and lots of wine!

The best part of it all is that we genuinely enjoy being with each other!

My 2010 Year In Retrospect

This time of year I always stop to think about what I've accomplished in the current year and what I hope to accomplish the following year. New Years resolutions are great but how many of us actually follow through with them or even remember them?!
Instead, I like to think about it as how I made myself a better person this year. So, here goes...

I participated in my first breast cancer walk as a team leader!

I volunteered countless hours and weekends with my favorite Pit Bull rescue and even rescued three dogs all by myself!

I scored my dream job as a Montessori Lead Teacher at an AMAZING school!

Began to learn how to sew!

Developed an insane appreciation for art in all forms and live music

Learned more about myself- my wants, needs, passions, and the things that I'm willing to compromise and not compromise with myself and others

but my biggest accomplishment yet....is ending the year as a college graduate!!! Graduation is next weekend and I still can't believe that I'm at this point in my life. I'm very excited and looking forward to all the great things to come!

In 2011 I hope to...
Participate in more events/walks for causes
Visit my grandmother more
Learn how to cook (as in learn how to cook- period!)
Be a more supportive girlfriend
Continue to volunteer my time
Spend more time with my family
get in shape
Blog
Learn how to sew pillows, handbags, and clothes

(btw these were in no special order)
